I know what tonight feels like.
Everything was going well.
He texted. He flirted. He made me feel wanted.
Not a little interested. Very, very interested.
Then he said we should see each other, and he invited me over.
I thought, okay, why not?
We were already getting to know each other.
This was just part of that.
When I left his place, he kissed me goodbye.
I came home. It was a regular day.
And then I noticed there was no text.
Okay. Maybe he's busy.
Busy turned into one day.
One day turned into two.
Two turned into three.
By day three, I was losing my mind.
I went over every moment, trying to find it.
The exact point where it went wrong.
Was it something I said? Something I did?
Did he hate me?
Was he already planning this, even while he was kissing me goodbye?
No heads up. No slow fade. No conversation.
Just point-blank cut off.
Nobody had ever treated me that poorly before.
It was the most confused state of my life.
Because this was someone I gave my body to.
My time.
Someone who made me feel wanted.
And then I found out I was never in a real relationship at all.
If you have physical pain, you can take medication.
This pain is from the heart.
You can't touch it.
And then there's the loneliness.
Nobody warns you about that part.
You go about your day. You laugh at the right moments.
You sit with people and try so hard to be normal.
And inside, there's an empty space
exactly where he used to be.
The texts. The flirting. The feeling of being wanted.
All of it, gone.
No warning. No goodbye that meant anything.
He just disappeared, and left a hole in the shape of him.
Everyone around you thinks you're fine.
Nobody knows.
You talk to a friend, and then you feel so embarrassed after.
So you stop talking.
You smile, and you carry it alone.
So I went online, searching for answers.
And everywhere, the advice was the same.
Give it time.
Just move on.
There'll be someone else.
But how do you think about someone else
when it's him you want right now?
That's the cruelest part.
You want the person who broke you
to be the one who makes the pain stop.
I wished there was a switch to make me forget.
I would have pressed it a hundred times.
There isn't one.
If you could just switch off your heart, there would be no need for this book.
So I wrote what I wish someone had handed me that week.
Not a theory about why he left.
A plan for what to do tonight. And tomorrow. And the day after that.
If you're asking yourself where it went wrong right now,
hear this from someone who has stood exactly where you are:
His silence is not a verdict on you.
This pain does not get to decide what you're worth.
And you are stronger than you think you are.
I'm not going to tell you to get over him this week.
I'm going to help you get through it.
With your dignity.
